Does anyone sell a Bangle.js 2 in Spain/Europe?

Posted on
  • Hello everyone. I would like to have a Bangle.js 2, but I can't afford its current price. I have searched for second hand ads, but can't find any.

    Is anyone selling one?
    At what price?

Thank you very much, I hope I'm not breaking the forum rules with this post.

  • I might also be interested in a Bangle.js 1.

  • There are also many other nrf52 watches that can run Espruino but need some tweaking so if you are low on budget and don't care for specific watch (Bangle 1 is very different from Bangle 2 in almost every aspect) and are not afraid of hacking/customizing it yourself you have many choices (in $20-$50 range, sometimes even lower). OTOH what real Bangle gives you is supported watch that works out of box, for that there is no substitute.

I do have few such spare unused hackable watches (including one F18 which is same HW as Bangle 1), send me PM for details if you are interested.

See e.g. what jeffmer has here https://jeffmer.github.io/WatchApps/ and there are few more available. Also some nrf52 fitness trackers can run Espruino as a minimalistic variant (price and size).

  • What about Vla ePaper Watch?

Kla (c) Open watch, connect SWD, flash Espruino for nRF52832DK, connect with Espruino IDE

  • There are new Bangles available to buy in Europe, for example from Berrybase (https://www.berrybase.de/detail/index/sArticle/9697/sCategory/2478) but you're looking at around 90 euros.

That ePaper watch looks really interesting! I should add though that Espruino on some other watche is not Bangle.js - you won't be able to run many (or sometimes any) of the apps from https://banglejs.com/apps/ on them. It can still be fun if what you really want to do is develop your own apps from scratch though.

  • Hi, I was told that the Bangle.js 2 is based on the SMA Q3 (nRF52840), but I can't find it to buy a unit. I have also seen that there are very similar watches, almost identical like the Mafa MX7.

I found ads on Alibaba, but the minimum purchase was almost 200€. On AliExpress I found only one ad, but far from 20-50$, it costs 74,32€ (a lot for me, especially considering that it is a Chinese watch and that it is not 100% sure that I will be able to install the Bangle.js 2 firmware):

I've seen this website you sent me, but no those watches don't have many apps (what interests me most about the Bangle.js 2 are the apps):

  • Oh, so you are not a developer and want to just use existing apps as is? Then yes, you need the real thing.

With those watches after some inital setup you can connect to Bangle app loader and try some apps but most may not fit or look good because of resolution or may use hardware not present in the watch or the Espruino build for it is outdated and/or is missing some Bangle APIs so yes it needs extra effort (which is part of the fun for some people)

  • You can still pick up SMA Q3 watches on Alibaba sometimes - some folks here have quite recently. However bear in mind that they may be of the original batch that has zero waterproofing.

Also you still have to install the firmware. If you were to have to buy an nRF52DK or Raspberry Pi to flash the watch (as well as doing the wiring) you would likely have to spend more money on hardware than just buying a Bangle.js in the first place.
