Bangles JS 2 won't connect via Gadgetbridge Bangle

Posted on
  • Today I realized that the watch isn't connected to the phone. It didn't reconnect immediately (which worked for me the last month flawlessly), so my dive into this rabbit hole now ended after several reboots in a fresh installation of the app.

Now it shows an error toast, so that is something \o/ I press on bangle in the device discovery, press pair, and yes on companion. Now a loading icon appears (it didn't before) and after some while a toast appears reading "Bonding with %1$s failed immediately".

I am now at the end of my abilities and would like some pointers to get them to talk to each other again.

  • You could try toggling on 'Connect by BLE scan' (something like that) in the Gadgetbridge app and see if that does something.

Other than that could you do some bullet points on what you tried already?

Have you been to the bangle.js troubleshooting pages? Have you read some of the threads on this forum where similar problems were solved?

  • I toggled that, I get a new android notification now about Scan service not scanning and Bangle.js running, but no success connecting.

I tried restarting phone and watch, disabling and enabling BLE and "Make Connectable" in the watch, and reinstalling Gadgetbridge.

I went through the pages now, nothing applied except for the low battery; it isn't really low but I am charging it now anyway.

I did not find an appropriate thread, but I only did a quick search though.

  • I'd try:

    • Make a backup in Gadgetbridge to keep data safe
    • remove the Bangle.js from Gadgetbridge
    • in android bluetooth settings 'forget' the Bangle.js
    • in Gadgetbridge try adding the Bangle.js anew.

Edit: Can you still connect to the watch in other ways, e.g. with web bluetooth in a browser. On some other phone or on a computer?

  • The bangle isn't in android Bluetooth settings. I tried with a browser on PC, works there.

  • Sometimes I have to try adding the gadget a few times before it works. Another tip I've seen from time to time is to say no on the questiom to pair - don't know if that have helped me though.

  • In Gadgetbridge there is an option "Ignore known devices" that you can disable?

Also is it possible that Android has done its "You haven't used this app in X days, I'm removing all its permissions" thing?
