• This may seem obvious, it certainly does to me in retrospect...

    But don't install the shim before you install the pin header - it blocks you from getting a soldering iron onto the other side of the board to solder the pins on!

  • Oh - strange... are you putting your shim on the top then?

    Soldering the pins in then requires getting soldering iron onto the top of the pins, but that path is blocked by the ESP8266. It's do-able, but considerably less pleasant than the other way around.

  • Ahh, right! Sorry, I was thinking about the shim, not the whole thing with the ESP8266 as well.
