New Discovery Board for STM32F411E MCU+FPU

Posted on
  • Will the espruino software work on the new STM32F411E board? It supposedly is just an upgrade from the STM32F4DISCOVERY (with the STM32F407), but has anyone already tried this board?

  • Not sure - it works on the F411 Nucleo. I think it might need a new build (and someone to make a new board description file for it) but I'm sure it could be made to work.

I'm afraid the FPU is unlikely to be much use though - JavaScript uses 64 bit floats, and usually the inbuilt FPUs only handle 32 bit floats. I guess this one could be different?

  • There is also one model based on the STM32F411VET6 without FPU, but it would also need a new build wright?
It is probably best to stick to the supported chips. Thanks :D

  • I'm not sure - as it's unlikely the FPU will be used, it may be that one build would do both.

However as you say, best stick to the hardware that we know works with it already :)
