Just a thought, but did you know @fanoush has done a port of Espruino to the DS-D6 (and a bunch of other stuff too): https://github.com/fanoush/ds-d6
I'm not sure if it's the same display or not but potentially you could use something like that - it's got the battery/charger/etc and is pretty integrated so might allow you to get things a bit more compact.
Or... not sure if you spotted http://forum.espruino.com/conversations/360918/ but you can run Espruino on the MDBT42V (which is insanely small). I'm in the process of getting some of those pre-flashed to stock in the shop.
