I'm not sure if you are at the right spot here. But may be you are. Espruino is not LUA... The example you refer to is for an Espruino PICO: get yourself an https://shop.espruino.com/espruino-pico-unpinned and - of course - an IR diode - and I can tell you it will run within less than 5 minutes following the instructions in the example.
Trying to do it with your LUA modules is a bit more work: re-flash it with Espruino Firmware and then adapt the code in the example, and it will most likely work as well.
