Did you get the I2C error when you re-connected to the Espruino board? If so it could just be because the Web IDE issued a Ctrl-C.
Also, you might find that the TX not received issue goes away with 1v54. I know I found something that caused Espruino to crash when interfacing it to the NRF module, and I fixed it in 1v54.
