Hi Jack,
To control a motor, the easiest way to get started is to use a relay module. See this link for more info on them and how to wire them up.
You can also use individual transistors or special motor driver chips, but they'll need a bit more wiring. I'll try and cover those soon but I don't have anything specific at the moment. The electrical connections are very similar to arduino though, so for the information on the electronics side of things you can always just google things like "arduino motor control".
