What if you do a backup via the app loader, and then a restore using the zip file you downloaded?
It's possible that yes, you have hit some kind of corruption in the filesystem of your Bangle. It might not have been the firmware update itself that did it, but that it had to compact the filesystem to make space to put the temporary firmware update file?
