Hi - yes, I'd imagine you could do something pretty well with a Puck, or even a Bangle.js.
It mentions the first/second generation though - you could pretty easily do first generation (accelerometer only) but second generation (while possible on the Puck) would require a bit of work, since you effectively have to do some 'sensor fusion' stuff to work out the position and angle of the device using the gyro and accelerometer data.

I was wondering if it would be possible to build something similar to a footpod for running (https://fellrnr.com/wiki/Footpod) or how close can a puck get? And even if anyone already tried?
