Hmm... interesting about the reset line float... Maybe later ESP8266 modules 'cost-cut' by removing the pullups?
What was the error from
esptoolwhen going through Espruino? Were you using Espruino 1v80, and did you tweak those lines in esptool as well? To be fair I haven't tried on OSX, but it really shouldn't be any different.
