@Gordon it's just started working again for a reason I can't see.
I've been using IDE every day for last 2 weeks, I always disconnect.
One issue is the IDE won't reconnect so what I have to do
is remove USB from pico
Connect on IDE
Reconnect USB to pico
Select given port & then all works
