Windows 7 refusing to load drivers for Pico

Posted on
  • Hi,

Just received my Pico, but it would seem when I plug it in Windows just cannot find a driver. It searches and searches, but always fails to find anything. All I can see are two devices listed in my device manager, both listed as "STM32 Virtual ComPort in FS Mode"

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Thanks

  • Just realised what I've done wrong.

When you go get the drivers you need from here (They aren't necessarily already on W7): http://www.st.com/web/en/catalog/tools/PF257938#
You need to read the README file. It is a two stage install process.

All working now, thanks guys! that'll teach me to be lazy!

  • Ahh - thanks for letting us know!

    In case anyone is wondering:

           2- Run your "VCP_V1.4.0_Setup.exe"

3- Go to Your installation directory - Example, C:\Program Files (x86)\STMicroelectronics\Software\Virtual comport driver

4- Go to Your OS version directory ([Win7] or [Win8])
    			+ Then :
    				- Double click on dpinst_x86.exe if you are running a 32-bits OS version
    				- Double click on dpinst_amd64.exe if you are running a 64-bits OS version
    			+ Follow the instructions.

I've just updated the Quick Start - hopefully this'll help some others that are getting started!

  • @Gordon is that driver install for both the regular and Pico boards?

  • Yes - they both enumerate as the same USB ID, so if you have the original Espruino Board working then the Pico should just plug in and go.
