Recommended firmware version?

  • I finally got my Bangle this week (yay!) but I have to say the out of a box was a little underwhelming. Morphing clock looks like a prototype designed before the resolution was determined, but I started grabbing all the clock faces with high hopes.

Sadly I haven't found the right mix of apps which makes the watch stable, and it seems inevitable that a good chunk of the clock faces I choose will eventually make the watch unstable to the point I have to reset it.

I see a lot of threads mention that updating the firmware helps with a lot of the apps, but I'm unclear if grabbing the nightlies is what people are talking about? My version is 2v05.68, but stable looks like it's actually much older at .1 if I'm reading it correctly.

I don't mean to come off negative and I'm glad to see there's still a lot of development going on, but I do think it would be easier if the defaults were a little better.

  • The latest version is always available here

  • Thanks @MaBe so the "Release Version" on this page: https://www.espruino.com/Download#banglejs is pretty meaningless at this point and we should use the cutting edge version at this stage of development.

  • since release 2.05 there have been more than 100 commits with a lot of great improvements and amazing enhancement.

you can find all the details here

  • Yep - definitely use the cutting edge builds until 2v06 comes out. It seems like your watch was at least flashed with a newer version than the originals so a lot of the early gotchas will have been fixed.

But yes, the out of the box software is very minimal and not much work has gone into that - honestly I'm expecting people to jump onto banglejs.com/apps pretty much immediately and start loading stuff up.

If you find things are making it unstable please let us know though - if there are specific apps that seem to cause problems we can take a look at fixing them.

I'm also looking at adding a ratings system, and I hope that when that's live it may help to weed out some of the more problematic stuff.

  • Thanks for the details @MaBe

@Gordon yes, I was just commenting since you've gone in to so trouble on this and there is so many nice details on the finish of the product. I jumped into the apps and immediately hit problems where I had to reset my watch a bunch of times, but after updating the firmware and not installing as many apps its looking better.

Thanks for the information still getting my bearings, but I'm good now.
