Espruino is a JavaScript interpreter for low-power Microcontrollers. This site is both a support community for Espruino and a place to share what you are working on.

You set the baud rate in the Settings (same place as you found the console) under 'Communications'.
If you're not aware it exists then I'd be almost certain that's your problem.
