Back then I had huge problems with flashing the Hi-Mini from OS X until I wrote some code to control the timing/delays better and shorten the binary chunks. Maybe the IDE also uses some delays that help here? I tried flashing the Pico three times using the Python script (which all failed on verify) and then had the WebIDE succeed on first try. Unless it just ignores the result of the verification step :)
