• A bit late for christmas this year, but I wanted to post it anyway:

Using the Espruino, a HM-10 Bluetooth 4.0 module and the WS2811 LED strip that came with my Kickstarter package a build a bluetooth controllable light strip for my christmas tree and fitting iPhone app.

I have no big tutorial or story to contribute, but I uploaded the source code to Github, feel free do use it for playing around.

I also made a quick video to see the app in action:

  • That's really cool - thanks!

This is the first HM-10 project I've seen as well. Does it actually 'just work'? It doesn't look like there was much configuration to do in code.js...

  • Thanks!

Yes, it 'just works'. I wired it up using this guide.

The only thing I cannot get to work currently is writing something back via Bluetooth.
Serial1.print just seems to do nothing at all. At least my iPhone app does not read anything back.

  • Thanks! I guess it may be that you have to send some 'AT'-style command text to send information back. Even without that it's still amazingly useful though!
