Hooking up the LED string

  • Microcontroller newbie alert! I'm experienced with JavaScript, but not hardware, so please forgive this noob question:

Just got my Espruino, got the on-board LEDs flashing, all good stuff. I want to hook up the string of LEDs that came with my board, but am not sure how. The device page for the LEDs (http://www.espruino.com/WS2811) says "Included in the kit should be a matching connector so that you can plug and unplug the LED string." No adaptor in my kit. Are there any tutorials for how to hook these things up? Preferably with lots of photos. Or video even better.

    Thanks!

  • Hi dacmo,

Sorry about this. The adaptor is just the little green/white thing in the bottom-left of this photo:

Your best bet is to cut off the other end of the LED string (the 'male' green/white bit with two pins rather than sockets) and use that (as if you wanted a longer string, you can just put the new one nearest the Espruino board and keep the one you have at the end).

I'll try and get a video done for you today though - that's something I've been meaning to do for a while.

  • Bit late, but there's now a quick video on wiring up here:

(Including what to do if you don't have the connector)
